London, England

We started our trip by flying through Reykjavík, Iceland. I considered staying over here a night, but honestly it didn't seem too inviting, the airport is about 50 miles from Reykjavík, but still, it looked very barren and cold.

After adventuring through the airport and subway system, we got to our flat around 2pm (9am our bodies time). It was already somewhat bizarre seeing very helpful happy people working in the subway system and directing people to busses. In America these people usually look grumpy.

Our apartment was a one bedroom with some awesome windows and views of downtown London. It was located in Archway, one zone away from downtown. Archway was a working class neighborhood, so it was neat staying somewhere far away from tourists.

Our neighborhood.

Small shops in front of the apartment. No big grocery stores here, you get your fruit, bandaids, and groceries all from different stores.

It rained on our first day, which was nice since it gives a feeling of "typical" London i suppose. We didn't do a whole lot the first day besides adjust to the time change (sleep) and then head out to a local pub at night. In the pub the "landlord" (bartender) had his daugther with him. She was only like 3 or 4 years old but really knew how to run a bar, he'd ask her to get a some certain beers and she would run to the fridge and get them, she would pour the beer from the tap (with him holding her up), and then ask for money. One guy tried to be cute with her and say he wanted to pay less, but she was firm "6 POUNDS PLEASE!!" (in Charles Dickens-like british kids voice).
