Day 5

Depart: New Orleans, LA at 7:45am: Cloudy, 63 degrees

Today we left the swamps of Louisiana and headed for Texas. The drive was pretty much over one very long bridge, because the entire state of Louisiana is one large swamp. Along the way we saw lots of trucks pulled over to the side of the road for some sort of swamp fishing.

Texas seemed a lot smaller than we thought it would be.

We headed into Houston around 2pm, the traffic around Houston is almost as bad as the DC area, they have an insane number of lanes on their highways, and the Houston metro area is like 40 miles large. The sky was dreary and it looked like it was going to rain. See more pictures of the skyline here.

We headed into town to see "Tranquility Park", a monument to commemorate the Apollo space program. The whole city of Houston is all about the space program. See pictures of Tranquility Park and downtown Houston here. We are staying in tonight as there is a huge storm system approaching with mad tornado warnings. I guess it wouldn't be Texas without tornados.
