Day 7

Depart: San Antonio, TX at 8:15 am: Sunny, 56 degrees

Sorry for the late update, as we stayed in the middle of nowhere last night, we had no cell phone service and thus couldn't upload!

We left San Antonio this morning, heading out of the Texas plains and into the Texas hills area.

We got bored, so we decided to fly to England real quick and see Stonehenge. See pictures of our adventure here.

We saw lots of pretty scenery along the way; see some of the cool sites we saw here. We also saw some cool wild life, including a road runner, see them here.

We stopped for lunch at a "Sonic" a fast food chain they have alot of in the South. It was wierd because its a drive-in, you pull into your spot, order, and they bring the food out to the car.

After lunch, we visited the town of Sonora, and saw the Sonoran Caverns. Click here to see our pictures from the cave.

As we drove on west through Texas the landscape turned from hills with lots of greenery to a more desertish plateau.

Near Bakersfield we saw this random pyramid shaped formation in the distance. We couldn't find anything about it in any of our brochures, so we stopped at the gas station near it. They didn't seem to know what we were talking about, but finally we got it out of them that its called "Squaw's Tit". Up close it didn't end up being all that special.

Here it is a little closer. Around the time we saw this, we realized we were absolutely in the middle of nowhere, because when we hit "seek" on the radio, it couldn't find a single station, AM or FM. It was like this for at least a hundred miles, when finally we picked up a single staton. It was country.

We arrived in Fort Stockton, and saw their claim to fame, the worlds largest roadrunner, Paisano Pete. We are staying in Fort Stockton tonight, it's the biggest town around for miles, but when we asked if they had a movie theatre, the front desk guy said, "Um, no...you would probably have to go to Odessa". Odessa is 83 miles from here. So our entertainment for tonight consisted of driving 15 miles outside of town where it was completely dark, pulling over, looking at all the stars we can't normally see in Maryland because of the lights, and then peeling off when we realized it was completely dark, and we were pulled over on the side of a highway in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone service. We'll try star watching again some other time.

Arrive: Fort Stockton, TX at 4:30pm: Sunny, 67 degrees
